The Super Eagles of Nigeria face a stern test this evening as they look to get at least a draw against Argentina in order to book a place in the next round of the ongoing World Cup in Russia. Although, the past meetings have not favourable to Super Eagles, but the motivation behind today’s game suggest Eagles are in to shock the Argentine.
Argentina needs a win to stand a chance of going through but that result will still depend on the final outcome of the match between Croatia and Iceland. Should Iceland beat Croatia, Argentina will be out irrespective of the scoreline even though they beat Super Eagles.
Super Eagles will be more determined to revenge 2014 loss to the Argentine and for another reason, in a long time, Nigerians have come together to show their support for the team especially after Musa’s heroic performance against Iceland.
Nigeria and Senegal are the only African countries left with a chance to proceed after their Northern counterparts (Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco) crashed out of the competition. The Super Eagles would be more determined to keep their place in the competition as a true representative of the African nation. Let’s not forget that Senegal remains the only African country to have gone beyond the round of 16 in a World Cup in their debut year in 2002. It would be worth it if Nigeria become the first African country to reach the semi final.
