Real Madrid and Barcelona both failed to register a win for a second successive week following draws against Atletico Bilbao and Atletico Madrid respectively in La Liga.
Both La Liga giants were on the losing side last week with both Leganes and Sevilla enjoying uncommon victories over the top two teams in Spain. Both teams struggle may not have come as surprise after a change of managers in the summer for Real Madrid, replacing Zidane while Barcelona may have started to feel the decline as a result of Messi reaching the latter stage of his career.
Real Madrid may also have started to feel the impact of departed Cristiano Ronaldo after their goalless draw against Atletico Madrid. Ronaldo recorded a whooping 22 goals in 31 appearances against Atletico Madrid. His influence which resulted in 15 wins, 8 draws and 8 losses during his time with Real Madrid cannot be overlooked.
Barcelona on the other hand almost lost another home match but for timely intervention by substitute El Haddadi who came one to replace Dembele before smashing in an equalizer four minutes after his introduction. The result means Barcelona still sits at the top of the table with 14 points, same as Real Madrid but one ahead of Sevilla who beat Eibar at home same Saturday afternoon
