Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has complained about the effects of ‘fake news’, stating that it even landed him in trouble with his wife recently.
While speaking at a BBC symposium in Abuja on Wednesday, 8th of January 2019, Osinbajo said a malicious blog post put up a picture allegedly showing him in the company of strippers.
The Vice-President then stated that when the picture was inspected closely, he realized he had indeed taken a photograph with the ladies at an entertainment event, but they were fully clothed. He added that the blogger selected a picture of where the ladies were not completely clothed and presented it to the public inaccurately.
Osinbajo lamented, “As it turns out, I wasn’t in the picture where they were not wearing clothes but just the caption, the stories gave the impression that here I was in the company of these ladies at a point when they were doing their business. I think the capacity of fake news to cause harm is not in doubt at all.”
