American actor and openly gay star of FOX Entertainment hit show “Empire“, Jussie Smollet has been hospitalized on Tuesday following an attack which has been termed as “homophobic”.
According to Variety, Smollett who plays Jamal on “Empire” was beaten by two men who hurled “racial & homophobic slurs” at him and also poured an “unknown chemical substance” on him.
They thereafter proceeded to put a rope around his neck before hurriedly taking off on foot. Smollett was eventually taken to a hospital in the area and is reportedly in good condition.
This had spurned reactions from the media space as lots of people condemned the act:
The racist, homophobic attack on @JussieSmollett is an affront to our humanity. No one should be attacked for who they are or whom they love. I pray that Jussie has a speedy recovery & that justice is served. May we all commit to ending this hate once & for all.

I’ve been trying to figure out all day what to say about the racist, homophobic, violence against @JussieSmollett.
Not sure I can describe what I’m feeling in a neat & tidy tweet. His trauma deserves more.
I’m sad. Living together on the planet shouldn’t be this difficult.

The horrific attack on Jussie Smollett has no place in a decent human loving society. Homophobia existed before Trump, but there is no question that since he has injected his hatred into the American bloodstream, we are less decent, less human,& less loving. No intolerance! No DT!
