Empire actor and singer, Jussie Smollet has been indicted by a US grand jury on a 16-count charge for allegedly staging an attack on himself.
According to CNN, eight of the 16 counts are related to his interview with one police officer after his alleged attack and eight more from an interview with another police officer on the same day.
Smollett has been accused of exploiting the pain and anger of racism and homophobia in an attempt to boost his profile.
His lawyer Mark Geragos, however, insists that his client “Adamantly maintains his innocence even if law enforcement has robbed him of that presumption.”
Smollet will be back in court on the 14th of March after being released on bond.
