Honoring God: Beware, Lest You Mess Up

Read: Numbers 20:7-13

Memorize: Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them”. (Numbers 20:12).

Moses, whom God so much applauded for his intimacy with Him, still committed blunders. God confirmed the peculiarity of this meekest man in the world of his time. ( Numbers 12:3,6-8).

However, with all these attributes as commendable as they are, Moses failed God, crucially. He was to speak God’s word to the rock for the people to drink, but he angrily struck the rock twice; the rock representing the Rock of Ages! This is added to the fact that he called God’s people ‘stiff-necked’, and ascribed the glory f bringing water to himself.

Dearly, beloved, we just have to be careful on our way to the Promised. Land. Do not allow anything that will debar you to enter your life. Persevere, endure, and obey God, totally (1Cor. 10:12)..

Moses was deprived from entering the Promised Land because of those serious errors. Looking at Moses who had been working with God for years, one wonders why this would happen to him. Moses did not give honour to God in the presence of His people. Was God seeing what he did as a form of show -off in the presence of God’s people? This is the more reason we should regularly examine ourselves if we are still standing on the standard faith in Christ ( 2Cor 13:5). God has no favorite that can’t be dealt with if he/she messes up. (1 Sam. 2: 30).

Many Christians today are not honoring God with their lives, actions, reactions, in actions, and resources. It irks God when any of us, ministers of God inclusive, act as if we are the authors of those things God wrought through us, miracles inclusive. Don’t misfire, God can never condone sin.

Prayer Points

  •  Lord, help me to honour You in all my endeavours.
  • Lord, help me to be careful with the way I live my life now, so that I don’t jeopardize my eternity.
  • Lord, help our political, traditional and church leaders not to abuse those God has placed in their care, so that they don’t face Your wrath at the end.
