A court sitting in Ibadan Oyo State have ruled that the fraud case on Alao Akala; Former Governor of Oyo State should commence June 29, 2018.
Justice M.L. Owolabi in his ruling on Monday, said “stay of proceedings will do more damage to the case, which has been pending since 2011”.
The ex-governor filed a stay of proceeding on his trial on an allegation of 11.5billion fraud against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), until the outcome of an appeal at the supreme court.
Ex Governor Akala, Former commissioner of local government Agboola Hosea and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Chief Executive Officer of Pentagon Consults, Olufemi Babalola, is standing trial for alleged criminal conspiracy and fraudulent practices to the tune of 11.5 billion.
After the EFCC arraigned them, the trial was stalled by an appeal made to the Supreme Court to stop the trial.
EFCC Counsel Ben Ubi urged the court to refuse the applications for another delay and ordered for accelerated hearing of the case in accordance with the intendment of the administration of Criminal Justice Law of Oyo State, 2016 and section 19(2)(b) of the economic and financial crimes commission(establishment) Act, 2004.
The Justice however has adjourned the case to June 29 and July 3, 2018 for the trial to start.
