Today the 14th of July is the set date for the Ekiti governorship election, so many drama and issues have been springing up because of this over the past two weeks and there are different speculations towards what is going to happen during the elections.
The number of people eligible to vote at Ekiti election today is 667,064, and these are the people that collected their PVC out of about 913,334 registered voters.
Voting will spread across 177 wards and 16 local governments, also 35 governorship candidates from different political parties will be contesting for the governorship seat.
The Nigerian Police has deployed not less than 30,000 policemen to monitor the election and about 4,390 combined forces of soldiers and other paramilitary personnel will be on ground.
Speaking on the election, Deputy Inspector General Of Police (DIG) Operations, Mr. Habilal Joshak, told newsmen that all the Aides to Political office holders will be withdrawn during the election till to prevent any act of sabotage.
According to the DIG, “we won’t allow anybody to go to the polling booth with armed men, this is a breach of the Electoral Act. We have contacted them, and they have to be here before the election commences. This election must not be compromised. They will be documented and whoever defies this will be sanctioned, because they have been contacted” he said.
He also mentioned that “ If you cast your votes, you can keep a distance and protect your votes, but if you snatch the ballot, we will cut off your hands, if you run with it, we will stop your leg”.
