European Champions League football resumes this week and as we approach the climax of the group stage, some big names are striving to qualify for the next stage.
Starting with one of the deadliest group in this year’s competition, group C which featured Liverpool, Napoli, PSG and Red Star Belgrade. It has been a close tie as Liverpool top the group with six points. Napoli and PSG followed with five and four respectively.
Today’s fixture had put Liverpool in an advantaged position, having tipped to beat the least performing team, Red Star Belgrade which will of course extend their lead at the top of the table. Napoli will welcome PSG in a return leg fixture following a 2-2 draw in Paris. The outcome of the match will be crucial come the last day of the group stage.
Liverpool will still welcome Napoli at Anfield and will be away at PSG in their final two games of the group stage. Qualification is still wide open, although, Liverpool holds current advantage ahead of others.
In other group, Man United are facing a daunting task to qualify from the group stage having lost to Juventus in their last game at Old Trafford. They are playing them again in a return leg fixture at Turin, a match seem difficult for Mourinho’s men considering their abysmal performance on their home ground.
Juventus led the group with 9 points, Man United have 4 points while Valencia will be looking to beat Young Boys to be ahead of United should they fall again to Juventus
Real Madrid are another big team facing a challenge to scale through their group in this year’s competition, having fallen so deep in form following the exits of Ronaldo and Zimedine Zidane. Sitting second behind Roma on the table, Real Madrid will be required to take maximum points from their remaining fixtures in the group stage if they are to stand a chance of qualification
