A High Court sitting at Abuja today Tuesday 12th June sentenced Ex-governor of Plateau State Joshua Dariye to 14 years for charges on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public fund up to N1.162 billion.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko in the Judgement today convicted him on 15 out of 23 counts preferred against him by the EFCC. The reading of this judgement took around six and half hours as the Judge declared the Judgement.

The Judge sentenced Dariye to a two-year term and a fourteen-year term which is to run concurrently, which means the ex-governor will be serving the sentence for fourteen years as provided under section 315 and 309 of the penal code Act.

Just before the Judgement was delivered, EFCC’s lawyer Mr Rotimi Jacobs moved against the motion of the defendant’s lawyer for the court to be lenient with his client, saying this judgement will be a deterrent unto others.

This same Judge also sentenced a former Governor, ex-governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame on similar charges to 14 years.
