Super Eagles might have been overwhelmed by the little success achieved against Iceland fortnight ago, and this may go on to affect them in the decisive match against Argentina. As it stands, anybody could still join Croatia. Iceland could beat Croatia and qualify, Argentina could beat Nigeria by a higher margin so anything is possible.
A win against Argentina will all but take Nigeria through but it is likely they would be all out to get a draw, assuming Iceland would lose to Croatia. Argentina, still reeling from Croatia loss, supported Nigeria against Iceland, believing that it will boost their hopes of reaching the next stage.
Argentina has a track record against Nigeria at the World Cup, and if care is not taken, there could be a repeat of the heartbreak in Russia. The mindset of going out to get a draw against Argentina would do Super Eagles no good. You wouldn’t want to absorb the pressure of a wounded and determined Messi for a whole 90 minutes. If Croatia could beat Argentina 3-0, Nigeria could also provide a shock. The determination which saw them through against Iceland could also play a vital role on the decisive match.
