The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be facing Argentina at the FIFA World Cup in Russia later this month. Argentina and Super Eagles have faced off in FIFA competition on a number of occasion, and the familiarity had spelled some memorable events. Nigeria, Argentina rivalry.

The first meeting was in USA 94, Claudio Caniggia was the hero as Argentina beat Nigeria 2-1 in an eventful match. The Super Eagles had a sweet revenge of the 1994 World Cup defeat two years later in Atlanta Olympic 96. beating Ortega led Argentina 2-1 in the final. Olympic triumph marked a memorable event in the history of Nigerian football. In 2008, Messi led Argentina beat Nigeria in another Olympic final in Beijing, China, crowning the South American country the first time.

In 2010, Argentina meet Nigeria again in the Group stage of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. A Gabriel Heinze’s lone goal was enough for the South American team. The overall meeting has fallen in favour of the South American team. Their last official meeting was in 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the game ended 3-2 in favour of Argentina. Although, Super Eagles beat Argentina 3-2 in a recent friendly match.
