Professor Yemi Osibanjo, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, revealed on Tuesday that President Buhari is working on ways to do a total overhaul of the special Anti-robbery Squad popularly known as SARs.
He said this while attending to questions directed to him at the Oyo State edition of the Youth Town Hall Meeting which was held at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
This Townhall meeting was attended by a lot of people mostly Youths and the Governor of the state with his cabinet. The Vice President, however, mentioned that the squad might not be totally banned because of the present security situations in Nigeria but the government will create different strategies to curtail them.
Professor Osibanjo mentioned that the government has ordered for a review of the squad because of the cry of Nigerians over different allegations of harassment and intimidation by the SARs.
He reiterated the need for SARS saying that “we must have a force to protect the lives and property of the people, you know SARS is Special Anti Robbery Squad, though some of them have been engaging in some activities contrary to their mode of operation”.
The EndSARS campaign is actually paying off and it is good to actually know the government is listening to the people of the country; what do you think about this development? Drop a comment or reaction below.
