Police Officers deployed to Borno State on special duties Monday staged a protest demanding their unpaid allowances.

The police officers took to the streets, shooting into the air and forcing motorists nearby to look for safety.

Speaking about the incidence, Damian Chukwu, the Commissioner of police in Borno state told journalists that the police authorities are aware of the situation and he also explained that the unpaid allowances were delayed because of the delay in signing the 2018 budget.

One of the police officers, who pleaded to anonymity, said they cannot tolerate it, “for over six months now we have no allowances and decent accommodation; we sleep on corridors of officers and sometimes in the open air, enough is enough”
