Argentina are out of the World Cup competition in Russia after losing 4-3 to France in the first match of the Round of 16. France got off to a flying start after Griezmann converted from the penalty spot. Di Maria equalized through a beautiful curled shot from 20 yards.
A deflected Gabriel Mercado from Messi’s shot put Argentina ahead early in the second half but Benjamin Pavard’s volley leveled the scoreline for France. Mbappe scored twice in the space of five minutes to put France in the driving seat.

Aguero scored a late consolation goal but was not enough to keep Argentina in the competition as the crashed out, leaving Messi with no chance of lifting the World Cup trophy during his peak years.
