The Lagos state government has made it know on Tuesday that it had abolished the promotion on the bases of career projection and workers are now to be promoted on their level of performance and efficient service delivery.
This was made know by the State Head of Service, Mrs Folasade Adesoye, who disclosed this at a news conference in Lagos to announce activities marking this year’s public service week.
The theme of the Public service week is “Transforming Governance to realise the Sustainable Development Goals”
The head of Service stated that all workers now have definite and defined job schedules against which their performances will be assessed.
She explained further that this approach is based on the perception that governance must be open, timely, effective and efficient.
She also mentioned that the public service day is celebrated every June 23rd and it has been celebrated since 1994 following the resolution of the Conference of African Ministers of Civil Service.
Adesoye added that there will be a variety of events between June 19 to June 25, events like Alausa got talent, Ayo, Draught and Ludo, dancing and display of skills and dexterity in local drumming among other activities.
There will also be a State Government Stand where medical screening will be done for ailments like hypertension, cervical/breast and prostate cancers, diabetes and hepatitis would be conducted. And the screening will be conducted free of charge, the Head of service added.
She concluded by adding that the climax of the event will be a dinner with the governor to honour outstanding public servants who have contributed to the state in great ways.
