The statement that the Senate made yesterday for the IG have gotten a reply, which Stated that the IG of police do not owe the senate any apology.
This statement was made by the Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, on wednesday, in a statement compiled by daily post, he stated that the attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to the news going all around, about the declaration of the IGP Ibrahim Idris as non grata, unfit for public office and enemy of democracy.
He stated that the IGP has not done anything wrong because in accordance to the laws of the country, the functions and roles of the inspector general of the police as stated in section 215(1a) of the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, and the police Act and regulations section 309(1) can also be carried out as mentioned in sections 7(1), 312(1), 313(2) of the police act and regulations section by a senior officer of the rank of deputy inspector general of police or an assistant inspector general of police.
He further stated that if this person is permitted by the inspector general, he can act in his stead in an official capacity at an official function or event within and outside Nigeria.
Going further with his statement, he said the Inspector general did this by delegating the deputy Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspectors and Commissioners of Police to represent him on the three different occasions that he was suppose to be at the front of the senate. The police spokesman said, the IG was busy with national responsibilities, he could not avoid all through the time that the was summoned.
Jimoh Moshood, the spokesman also explained all the police did on the case of Senator Dino Melaye and ended the public statement by saying the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force will not be stopped by blackmail from anybody or group to uphold law and order in the country. Stating clearly that the Nigeria police owes the Senate no apology neither does the Inspector General.
