Manchester City failed to extend their lead at the top of the table after they luckily escape defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace on Sunday. The match ended 0-0 but it could have gone Palace’s way after Milivojevic missed a spot kick in the 92nd minute. Man City’s winning streak have now come to an end but still sit comfortably at the top of the table with 14 points above second placed Chelsea.
Chelsea thumped Man United to the second spot after the latter had a series of disappointing results. United looked shattered and not ready for a title challenge. Chelsea with their present form and with City’s injury, can mount some pressure on title challenge. Man City lost Gabriel Jesus to injury and Guardiola has confirmed the player will be out of action for the next two months. De Bruyne was also reported to have picked a knock during the match and these two players have proven to be very important in City’s charge for title.
In other news, referee Mike Dean spoilt Wenger’s celebration with a very bad decision in the die min inute during Sunday’s Premier League match against Westbrom. Arsenal had gone one up in the second half and when it looked like they are going away with all three points, the ref spotted a penalty for Westbrom following Chambers hand ball inside the box. Although, the ball hit his arm but replays showed it was not deliberate and the decision to award a penalty has been heavily criticized.
Mike Dean is a professional referee. Happy new year everyone. pic.twitter.com/QesCEOvkhn
