Lazarus means “God had helped.” The name was common among the Jews, and was given to two men in the New Testament who had nothing to do with each other. But this Lazarus of Bethany was the brother of Martha and Mary, and all three were specially loved by Jesus (Jn 11:5). In their home, Jesus was more often entertained (Lk 10:38-41; Jn 11:1). But now, while Jesus was away on a Gospel trip, Lazarus was reported sick (v. 3), yet Jesus, his personal friend, chose to delay in returning to Bethany. Won’t such friendship be queried? Yet Jesus showed up and brought His friend Lazarus back to life, after having been laid in the grave for four days (Jn 11:3, 14, 17, 43-44). What a friend we have in Jesus!

LAZARUS, OUR FRIEND
READ JOHN 11:7-11
MEMORISE: A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)
Here, Jesus proved that He is a friend indeed. God never disappoints anyone, or distance himself from our troubles. It is time you change your spiritual status from just being a follower of Him, to His trusted friend. In a multitude, a follower is lost, but a friend indeed is easily noticeable. Let people see in you what they noticed about Jesus, over Lazarus dilemma: Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!” (John 11:36).
May your children inherit God’s unfailing blessings, just as God gave them to Isaac, because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws (Gen 26:5). Amen. Live for God and leave a legacy behind. Do you love God’s Word? If yes, you are His friend.
1. Oh Lord Jesus, I want to be Your friend indeed; help me totally.
2. O Lord Jesus, live Your life in me that I may be Yours indeed.
3. Lord, restore true love and trust among parents and children with no-love-lost situation.
