Dino Melaye, the controversial senator who represents Kogi West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has lost his appeal for bail and is set to stay in police custody till June 11, 2018.
The senator was taken to the Magistrate court in Lokoja Kogi state where he was arraigned for alleged gunrunning. He was previously arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja for attempted suicide, Unlawful Possession of prohibited Firearms, conspiracy, damaging government properties and escape from lawful custody.
He was released on a 90 million naira bail but was later rearrested immediately to face other charges. The police who took him from the court premises painted a picture of taking him to the hospital but in actuality, moved him to the force headquarters.
Some social media users are questioning the system of government. CEO of Silverbird group Ben Murray Bruce tweeted, “So @dino_melaye was granted bail. However, while leaving the court, he was picked up again by police. They claimed they were taking him to hospital, rather, they took him to Force Headquarters. Their intention is to move him to Kogi State anytime from now. Is this a democracy?”
Some others insinuated that he is getting punished because of his previous comments on the nature of the government and her activities.
