Ahmed Musa scored a second half brace to lift Super Eagles’ hope if reaching the next round on Friday evening. Nigeria needed at least a victory to stand a chance of qualifying to the knockout stage following Croatia’s thumping of Argentina yesterday.
It was a balanced game as both teams laboured but could not find a breakthrough in the firat half. But there was a turnaround in the second half as Ahmed Musa who plies his trade at CSKA Moscow in Russia became an instant hero after he scored two brilliant goals to give Super Eagles their first win in the competition.
They will now face a wounded Argentine side in their last game needing at least a draw to proceed to the next stage. As it stands, Croatia tops the group with six points, Super Eagles followed having gotten three points. Iceland and Argentina shared one point each, sitting third and fourth respectively.
Aside Croatia who has already booked a place in the knockout stage, either of the other teams could still qualify depending on the outcome in the last match. It will be a very difficult game against Argentina side that will desperately need a win to go through. Super Eagles have to do their homework properly if they are to stop Messi and co.
Good luck to the Super Eagles
